Job Description
Effectively communicate classroom information between the teacher, deaf students and hearing students according to the language level of the student, their preferred mode of communication, and the goals of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), tutor and assist the deaf students as needed to further facilitate access to the general education curriculum and to monitor the students for comprehension, understand the students' language skills and modify the classroom language to ensure that the students understand the concepts while still conveying the message accurately.
Qualifications: Certified or licensed interpreter preferred, ASL interpreting experience, EIPA score of 3.0 or higher, exceptional command of English and ASL with the ability to shift to contact signing or conceptually accurate signed English as needed
Previous experience with and knowledge of total communication method; understanding of the specific needs of students with cochlear implants; knowledge of assessment and instructional materials best suited for children with hearing loss
Working Conditions: Work under the guidance of the classroom teacher and teacher of the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
*Multiple positions available in both elementary and middle school settings.
