The Institute will begin at 2:00 pm on Monday and continue through noon Thursday.  There will be an evening sessions on Tuesday.  Participants who elect to stay in the cottages at TSD may check in on Monday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

This first-ever event to be held in Nashville promises to be appreciated by all attendees especially the DeafBlind and their families; as well as the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, and the General Public. The TODB has already acquired about 23 technology vendors and Human Services agencies to display and answer questions. Expect interesting speakers.

Bring a vegetable dish or dessert for our potluck lunch. Meat will be provided (probably turkey). Dishes that must be heated, should be microwavable.

Director Lanna Little from the Signal Center will be speaking. Come see new technology that is available for Deaf/Deaf Blind and Hard of Hearing folks.Signal Center has been an excellent area resource for people with all types of disabilities.

This workshop will break down the interpreting process from start to finish in a medical interpreting assignment. Highlighted topics include: preparation, doctor’s office vs. hospital setting, breaking down medical terminology and medical questions, the art of “handing off” to the next interpreter, HIPAA considerations, Universal Codes, Informed Consent, avoiding infection exposure, interpreting in the OR, sterile field, best practices when medical situations are not what is expected involving legal, mental health, child services, or palliative care.

This meeting is our required annual meeting to discuss certain specifics with the group, but this meeting we will have a special guest from the National Weather Service to discuss some flooding and winter weather basics along with some preparedness steps you can take. Lunch will be provided, so please make sure you register!!

Community Night is held the last Monday night of each month. We provide a light meal, fellowship, fun, but most importantly, we invite a community partner to present.

Pam Smith, Director of Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard-of-Hearing Services at Partnership will be our guest speaker. She will fill us in on services, opportunities available at their location, and tell us more about the "Community Night" coming up on January 29. The topic will be Fire Safety by the Fire Dept. After the recent fire claiming the life of a 9-year-old boy whose parents are deaf, the topic is of utmost importance. You never think it will happen to you.
