Description:
TSD is searching for a youth service worker (Nights). The Department of Student Life Residential Program provides a learning and independent living environment where students develop to reach their fullest potential. The Youth Service Worker 2-Night staff is responsible for providing service to students in the residential program during overnight hours.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED required
• Associates Degree or above (preferred)
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
• Child care experience (preferred)
• SLPI:ASL rating of Survival Plus or above required; SLPI:ASL rating of Intermediate Plus preferred. American Sign Language (ASL) sign classes and skill development support available for selected qualified applicants who do not meet the rating level.
Terms of Employment: Full time executive 10-month employee
Salary: State of TN Salary Grade H - $2825.00 per month (10% night shift differential to be added.)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Direct supervision of students and staff in a residential living environment
• Provide on-going care and training to TSD residential students
• Administer rules and regulations of TSD
• Accompany students on overnight field trips and extracurricular activities, including out of state trips on weekends for overtime opportunities
• Plan and direct learning opportunities for living and recreational activities
• Build and maintain appropriate rapport with students
• Counsel or discipline students as necessary
• Identify and fulfill emotional and social needs of students
• Provide coverage in any dorm houses as needed and when school opens late due to inclement weather
• Conduct headcounts regularly in the dorm and at dining hall
• Knowledge to use computer, video phone and electronic devices
• Prepare reports, time sheets, memos and various types of notifications for students and staff
• Attend meetings regularly
• Manage students with multiple disabilities as assigned
• Maintain safety of assigned students including escorting and supervising at clinic and knowledge of emergency procedures
• Keep records and make reports
• Maintain high personal standards as a role model for students
• Answer phone calls/VP calls and deal with crisis situations
• Performing other duties as assigned (including laundry and cleaning)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Planning and preparing meals for groups of students
• Ability to identify student needs
• Problem solving skills to address various situations
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
• Ability to work with a team of employees
• Goal oriented and student focused
• Ability to manage multiple students alone
• Ability to follow assignments as provided by Supervisor
