Description:
The Social Worker provides support to students and their families in a variety of areas. This individual will assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, attendance concerns, positive behavioral support, academic and classroom support, and family needs. The School Social Worker will also provide individual as well as small group counseling and therapy. This position will collaborate with other mental health professionals as well as school leaders to create and maintain a safe and healthy school environment.
Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, psychology, sociology or related field.
• Training/certification in social work and/or counseling.
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
• SLPI: ASL rating of Survival or above required; SLPI: ASL rating of Advanced preferred. ASL sign classes and skill development support available for selected qualified applicants who do not meet the rating level.
Terms of Employment: Full time executive 12-month employee
Salary: State of TN Salary Grade J - $3,595 per month
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• connecting families with local resource providers
• communicating with families about attendance and assisting with school attendance issues
• collecting information regarding student social history and/or adaptive behavior rating for IEP teams to include families
• attending IEP meetings as necessary
• supporting academic staff with student counseling needs
• supporting student life staff in assisting students through crisis
• engaging in professional development in order to meet changing job conditions
• participating in evaluation and assessment teams
• collaborating with local resource providers
• conducting Title case investigations and serving as a liaison between school staff, students, families, and TDOE legal counsel; preparing Title case investigation reports for school administration
• facilitating connections between students/families and local resources
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of best practices in the areas of responsibility
• Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements in areas of responsibility
• Ability to organize district-wide projects
• Manage and organize multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to make decisions based on relevant information
• Ability to work cooperatively with team members, other departments and agencies
• Ability to clearly communicate in written English and spoken English and/or American Sign Language as appropriate.
• Understanding of FERPA and ability to apply rules and guidelines to student date..
