The Beachwood Schools is the host school district of the Cooperative Hearing Impaired Program, a 29-school district consortium-based education program for students with hearing loss. Educational services reflect the specific individual needs of each student within the general classroom, resource room, and D/HH classrooms. Various means of communication are used, including sign language, hearing, speaking and speech (lip) reading.
An Individual Education Program (IEP) is developed for each student by the educational team that includes parents, representatives from a variety of program disciplines, and - when appropriate - the students themselves. Program services include speech and language therapy, interpreting, audiology, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and communication.
Teaching is consistent with the district’s mission statement: To develop intellectual entrepreneurs with a social conscience. This reflects the district’s core values: contribute to a society and community; respect individuality and diversity; expect quality; encourage risk-taking, innovation and leadership; and develop lifelong learners.
