The Louisiana DeafBlind Project (LADBP) supports children and youth ages 0-22 who have varying degrees of vision and hearing loss, known as DeafBlindness. Children who are DeafBlind benefit from specialized support to build communication skills, access learning, navigate their environment, and thrive.
Who is Eligible?
Any child or youth ages 0-22 living in Louisana who has both vision and hearing loss, known as DeafBlindness. Children can also qualify with a diagnosed progressive love or with visual or auditory processing issues.
Who can request services?
Any family member, educator, or service provider can reques services. The student can recieve services regardless of their special education classification.
Services:
Educational Guidance: We can work with a student's school team to provide ideas, recommendations, support for evaluations, communicatio nstrategies, and more. We can schedule a school visit an observation or a team meeting at your convenience.
Transition Planning: We can assist families and professionals to support a young person in transition to adulthood. We can work together to navigate existing resources to empower your student or youth to succeed, not matter what success looks like for them.
Professional Development: Workshops, training opportunities, and ongoing support to educators, early intervention, providers, school districts, pediatric therapy centers, and vocational rehabilitation professionals working with children and youth who are DeafBlind or have complex support needs. We offer workshops on various topics throughout the year. We can also design a custom training to suit your school's needs.
DeafBlind Intervener Training: We provide specialized training to paraprofessionals who work one-on-one with a student who is Deafblind to become qualified interveners. Trainees meet individually with a mentor while completing online training modules.
Family Support and Training: We can be a part of your child's journey whether you are navigating Early Intervention services, your first IEP, transition to adulthood, or anything in between. We provide information, referrals to outside resources, connection to other families, and support when you need it.
