Organization Description

The Fairview Learning reading program, designed specifically for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, reflects years of collaboration among educators of the deaf and utilizes best practices. Fairview's unique program provides individuals the literacy tools to construct mental, linguistic frameworks. These frameworks, specific to each user, allow access and increasing fluency in English and ASL, and ease the movement between the two languages. The program can be seamlessly integrated into any existing reading program, and is both user-friendly and fun.

Fairview Learning is a literacy program, NOT a curriculum. We are a strong intervention program that utilizes a set of 5 high yield strategies that we apply to a curriculum to help deaf learners become independent skilled readers. While we do offer materials that are used during implementation, the true Fairview Learning Program is taught during our Fairview Training & Coaching.

Fairview is for

  • Parents who want to see their children develop good reading skills and succeed in school.
  • Teachers who want resources developed specifically for their students who are deaf.
  • Administrators who want an innovative reading program with accountability.
  • Students who want to improve their reading levels quickly and significantly.
  • Adults who want to jumpstart their reading skills quickly and efficiently.

Fairview strategies and tools work because they maximize and appeal to the visual linguistic system. They are based on scientific neurological, reading/educational, and second language best practices research. The Fairview 5-component model can be used as a Response to Intervention (RTI) protocol or as a reading intervention program to jump-start and develop reading skills.

The Fairview 5-component reading intervention program and training protocol has two goals:

  1. to enable deaf students to read and sign more accurately as they begin the arduous ask of simultaneously reading English while thinking in and learning American Sign Language (ASL); and
  2. to provide teachers and students of ASL a consistent method to begin learning the language.

To effectively implement the Fairview Learning strategies, training is essential. Our comprehensive Fairview Training consists of 14 modules. By the end of the training, you will become an expert in the program, equipped to implement it effectively with your students.

    Tools and Training:

We offer a few different training options to suit your needs:

Webinar Training:

  1. Our live webinar training sessions are conducted via Zoom. Typically, we schedule one session per week, but we're flexible and can adjust the schedule to accommodate participants' availability. What sets our Fairview webinar training apart is that implementation begins on day one. Participants apply what they learn each week with their students, allowing them to come to the next session prepared with any questions that may have arisen during implementation. By the end of this training, participants have implemented the program step by step and have become experts in its application. Our Fairview staff is available to support you every step of the way.

Self-Paced Training:

  1. Our self-paced training option consists of pre-recorded sessions that participants can move through at their own pace. Participants have access to the training for one year (with the option to purchase extended access at a discounted rate). Although this training is pre-recorded, participants will have the opportunity to participate in four live Q&A sessions, which they can schedule at any time during the training period. Our Fairview staff will support you throughout this training journey. Participants will have various communication options to reach out to our team as they progress through the training.

On-Site Training

3. We also offer on-site training, which is conducted exclusively during the summer months. This on-site training provides the same comprehensive Fairview training but is conducted in person over the course of 3-4 days.

No matter which training option you choose, our dedicated Fairview team is here to support you every step of the way.
