Tennessee interpreting Licensure Initiative (SB 942 / HB 1040)
The initiative establishes a state license for sign language interpreters to ensure quality, accountability, and protection for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Tennesseans.
Creates a Bord of Sign Language Interpreting to oversee licensing, ethics, and complaints.
Requires interpreters to meet skill, qualification, continuing education, and ethical standards.
Offers Licensed, Provisional, and Temporary licenses.
Goal: Improve access and safeguard communication by ensuring interpreters are qualified and accountable.
