Workshop Description:
Tech in Terping, presented by Daleena Ewbank, is an interactive workshop designed to help ASL Interpreters become more familiar and comfortable in the most common platforms used in VRI work, as well as learning similarities and differences in navigating the platforms and their tools. This workshop also dives into navigating common agency invoicing and scheduling platforms from the interpreter perspective. We will also discuss hardware, software and personal business tools and assignment prep technologies.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to differentiate in tools and navigation between the major VRI platforms of Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, as well as in other less frequently used platforms.
- Participants will be able to explain navigation for some commonly used Agency platforms (Interpreter Intelligence, Boostlingo, uSked, etc).
- Participants will be able to operate Excel spreadsheets for invoice and income tracking.
- Participants will be able to list beneficial peripheral hardware and equipment for VRI work.
- Participants will be able to list teaming options for both VRI work and tools for preparing for onsite work.
Presenter Bio:
Daleena Ewbank is a NIC certified interpreter with nearly 20 years’ experience in the profession. As a lifelong learner, Daleena is always striving to learn and grow in any area she chooses to work. She holds certifications beyond interpreting that aid in her ability to be a well-rounded interpreter and interpreting team. As a certified Life Coach and Certified Wellness Coach, Daleena is equipped with tools that aid in her ability to perform her duties with cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed practices.
Daleena strives to create an environment of kindness, understanding, fairness and equal access in every situation. Whether she is functioning as a community interpreter, team interpreter, facilitator or coach - she aims to always leave a situation better than she found it. As a working interpreter, Daleena understands the demand, stress and need of the profession. She has a passion for uplifting, encouraging and aiding in the advancement of the people around her. All of Daleena’s experience in both interpreting and coaching allows her to have a unique and beneficial approach to supporting fellow interpreters and mentoring future interpreters.
