Ready, Set, Learn!  Literacy Workshop for Families of deaf / hard of hearing children

Ready, Set, Learn! was designed specifically for families with children 12 months – 3 years identified with hearing concerns. Modified from the Ready! For Kindergarten: International Children’s Reading Foundation, the emphasis is on programing for families of children 0 – 5 to engage in purposeful play throughout the day. The activities address the Tennessee Early Learning Developmental Standards (TNELDS).

This FREE workshop is designed for families. Families with children identified as deaf, hard of hearing, or other issues will learn how to use the materials. Ready, Set, Learn! literacy boxes to use at home. The activities are fun ways for families to promote language acquisition and early literacy.

Teachers of the Deaf present during the two hour workshop.

Parents are actively engaged in the workshop. They interact with the Ready, Set, Learn! materials during the workshop to practice the skills they will use at home.

All materials are designed using the TNELDS. Each literacy box contains 4 – 6 children’s books, materials, and activities related to a specific theme. Parents learn how to make each activity grow with the child – beginning, intermediate, advanced. Additionally, parents receive a Ready, Set, Learn! binder with instructions, resources, and a copy of the TNELDS.

Materials included in the Ready, Set, Learn! literacy boxes promote success for those children using listening, visual language support, or American Sign Language (ASL). Families will have access to direct instruction as well as GIF format that match each of the children’s books.
