We are pleased to announce that TN Hands & Voices, Family Voices of Tennessee, West Tennessee School for the Deaf are cosponsoring Sibshops for 8 - 13 year old brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. These Sibshops are lively, action-packed, 3 hour workshops that celebrate the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Sibshops acknowledge that being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, for others a not-so-good thing, and for many, somewhere in between. They reflect a belief that brothers and sisters have much to offer one another-if they are given a chance. The Sibshop model mixes information and discussion activities with new games (designed to be unique off-beat, and appealing to a wide ability range) and special guests. Join us! Sibshops are run by a team of people who have a professional and personal understanding of the impact a child’s special needs can have on brothers and sisters. Equally important, they all have great kid skills! We also have facilitators who are sibs in their early 20’s. Sibshops will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the following dates: October 20, December 1, February 2 and April 6. Sibshops will be held at West Tennessee School for the Deaf, 100 Berryhill Drive in Jackson, TN. Each Sibshop is $5.00, which includes supper. TN Hands & Voices will provide scholarships for deaf & hard of hearing families upon request.
