Job Description


Description: The school psychologist is responsible for administering psychological services to students on three campuses of the Tennessee Schools for the Deaf. These campuses include Knoxville, Nashville, and Jackson. In addition to conducting evaluations, the school psychologist also provides support to students, teachers, support staff, and administrators by collaborating on support plans, responding to crises, and supporting Outreach efforts.

Qualifications: 
• Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university 
• Completion of an advanced program approved by the State Board of Education for the preparation of school psychologists 
• Meet all professional assessment requirements as specified by the State Board of Education 
• Tennessee Driver’s License 

Terms of Employment: Full-Time 11-month employee

Salary: Salary is based on experience and education

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  These are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

• Administer evaluations, including cognitive, adaptive behavior, achievement, and executive-function tests 
• Interpret results and prepare reports 
• Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEP) based on evaluation reports  
• Participate in Individual Education Plan meetings 
• Provide consultation to teachers, parents, and dorm staff 
• Provide professional development to staff members on three campuses 
• Consult, collaborate, and if needed, conduct re-evaluations for Deaf students via Outreach 
• Review "prospective students" through office of registrar, reading documents and advising the IEP team on the applicant's program needs 
• Evaluate high-risk students through manifestation determination meetings 
• Advise IEP Teams related to mental health interventions and prevention programs 
• Collaborate with educational staff to create coordinated plans  
• Refer students to community services if needed. 
• Collaborate with the counseling team to resolve classroom or school crises. 
• Contact Local Educational Agencies representatives for individual psychotherapy for students with critical needs. 
• Participate in team conferences related to student admission, programming, placement, treatment, behavior, and other individualized needs. 
• Provide professional development for staff and other professionals.

• Knowledge of current best practices in Deaf Education 
• Knowledge of the bilingual approach to Deaf Education 
• Strong organizational skills  
• Strong communication skills 
• Proficient in Excel and Microsoft  
• Strong interpersonal skills    
• Ability to manage and organize multiple projects simultaneously 
• Ability to make decisions based on relevant information  
• Ability to work cooperatively with other department
