DESCRIPTION:
Far from being exclusive and special, and different from mainstream education, deafblind education has an inclusive holistic philosophy from which all children would benefit, but especially those for whom the approach was first devised. This presentation will focus briefly on the history and development of the approach and the changing nature of the population of children identified as having deafblindness. Then there will be consideration of assessment approaches, programming, instructional strategies, and environmental considerations all from a deafblind perspective.
