Workshop Description:
Does the idea of deliberate practice cause you feelings of overwhelm? Anxiety? Dread? Does this lead to avoiding practice altogether? Plaguing you with guilt and shame? You are not alone. Interpreting is tough enough without the added weight these feelings can cause.
Whether you are still a student, just starting out, or have been in the field for years, deliberate practice has a multitude of benefits. Join us for this interactive and reflective workshop to examine common challenges that disrupt the process, causing us to get in our own way. The workshop will not only include a variety of strategies but will guide participants in developing personalized approaches to liberate their individual practice.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Develop two to three strategies to apply to their deliberate interpreting practice.
- Identify at least 2 challenges they face when attempting to engage in deliberate practice
Presenter Bio:
Cyndi holds her M. Ed and from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. Cyndi is an active certified interpreter and dedicated mentor with over 16 years experience. She is currently a full-time Staff Interpreter for a major health system in Rochester, NY. Throughout her career, Cyndi has had the privilege to mentor, tutor, and educate interpreters at all levels of development from ITP students to seasoned professionals. Through these experiences, she’s grown passionate about the growth and sustainability of the interpreting field and strives to foster a supportive environment for all interpreters. In her free time, she enjoys reading, puzzles, and crafting.
