A free all-inclusive retreat at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan designed to guide high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing through the college and job application process. (Lots of fun activities too: Motivational speaking, recreational Activities, visual/hands on Learning, college recruiting, team building activities, and the opportunity to meet professionals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.) Saturday only registration is available.

Our focus this year is on Critical Issues in Deaf Education: Transitions from secondary to post-secondary settings. Presentations include information from state agencies providing services and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing as they transition into college or career settings.  Topics such as Self-Determination and Self-Advocacy will be included as well as where to locate and how to secure Interpreters, Transcription or Cart services, Vocational Rehabilitation and much more.

This Saturday workshop will give Deaf and hearing interpreters tools on how to team together, with a special emphasis on Mental Health and Legal settings.

This workshop is designed for Deaf individuals who want to become a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI). Education will be provided on the role of CDIs and what steps to take to become a CDI. This workshop will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Bridges, located at 935 Edgehill Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees will have a hour lunch break.

The Institute will begin at 2:00 pm on Monday and continue through noon Thursday.  There will be evening sessions on both Monday and Tuesday.  Participants who elect to stay in the cottages at TSD may check in on Monday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Along with our informative workshops, we will have artisan exhibits from members of our local Deaf and interpreting communities available. We will be offering a box lunch from Jason’s Deli on Saturday, June 27th. You will have your choice of a premium ham or oven-roasted turkey breast sandwich with leafy lettuce and tomato, chips, pickle and a chocolate chip cookie; vegetarian options will be offered upon request. This year we are doing things a little differently; the choice is yours!

The 2015 SSCHL Conference will be held October 16-17, 2015 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

This is a full-day Friday, half-day Saturday event. Plan now to attend. See the attachment for the conference schedule!

Intended participants: Educators of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing,  Speech Language Pathologists, Listening and Spoken Language Specialists, Educational Audiologists. Parents and university students are welcome too!

All day Friday, until noon Saturday with registration for each day singly or both days.
