The purpose of the Youth Advisory Council is to bring together youth or young adults (14-24) to advise and collaborate with TN Department of Health on activities, programs, policies and resources affecting the health, wellness, and transition of youth in our state.

KCD invites you to attend an informational meeting regarding Tennessee's efforts to create sign language interpreter licensure.  For your convenience, two meetings will be held this Saturday: from 1PM - 3PM and from 6PM - 8PM.  Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about the proposed legislation.  We will share information, including a PowerPoint presenatation that explains the process, and answer your questions about what interpreter licensure will look like in Tennessee!

Our Presenter, De Linda Brite, will provide this training for individuals with both vision and hearing loss who would like to understand what SSP (Support Services Provider) service is and how to use an SSP properly. This is also for individuals who have utilized an SSP in the past but would like to refresh their knowledge! It's Free for anyone to attend!

Meet with a lawyer for advice on: Conservatorship, Wills/Estates, Homeownership, Family Problems, Landlord Problems, Debt Problems, Employment Problems, Government Benefits, Contract Problems. Please, let us know if you would like to make an appointment. Library Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff will be available to facilitate communication during intake.

This is an opportunity to meet with state legislators at the Capitol in Nashville to talk about issues that are important to you and your family. Dozens of disability organizations will be participating; with your help, we can ensure that every legislator gets to hear from a constituent with a disability or a family member.

The Arc Mid-South will provide accessible bus transportation for this event. We will leave The Arc offices at 3485 Poplar Ave. in Memphis at 5:30 am and return by 6:30 pm. Applications and fees are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, January 25.
