Welcome to the Bringing the Stage to Life - NASHVILLE Conference! This event is completely unique and cannot be compared to any short or long term Performance Interpreting conference. BSL Nashville focuses on preparing attendees to use Performance Interpreting skills for professional and local events. Because BSL Nashville is located here in Music City U.S.A. we have a unique opportunity to access a wide variety of musical styles and settings ranging from dinner theatres, to national shows, to local Honky Tonks, one time big named concerts, to the famous Grand Ole Opry stage. This event will prepare interpreters to provide top quality, visually stimulating, musical interpretations, the kind which most Deaf consumers crave. We do it all in an environment filled with love, kindness, support, and honesty. This workshop is perfect for interpreters and interpreting students who want to grow towards greatness, who want to change, and who desperately want to be a part of an extended family. Does that sound like you? If so, take a moment to look around this website and find out more about BSL Nashville! Hope you can join us!

Check the website to apply, details regarding presenters, the schedule, housing, cost, sponsors, CEU's, etc.

We are shaking the Convention up for 2017!

  • The opening night Get Acquainted Party will take place at the CaptionCall headquarters in Salt Lake City and include dinner, entertainment, raffles and tours of the call center.

  • Instead of the Awards Breakfast and Ceremony on Sunday morning, we will be adding a Friday night Awards and Talent event, HLAA Stars Come Out.If you are interested in performing following the award presentations, send a short video (MP4) of yourself telling a joke, singing a song, playing an instrument, doing a jig, or performing a magic trick…you get the idea! The top ten auditions will be invited to compete during the Stars Come Out talent show. Attendees will vote for their favorite act via the mobile Convention app; the winner will be the opening act for Gael Hannan’s production Huh? Life with a Cranky Cochlea on Saturday evening. Send your audition video via email (or Dropbox) to Nancy Macklin at nmacklin@hearingloss.org no later than March 15.

  • Sunday will be available for optional tours – more information coming soon about tours and an opportunity to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. You will want to take some time to see Salt Lake City and the surrounding area – breathtaking!

  • Educational workshops will focus on: advocacy; hearing assistive technology (HAT); and cochlear implants and hearing aids; and communication. In addition there will be a Hearing Loop track offered on Friday and Saturday.

  • The name of the event – HLAA2017 Convention (old version would have been Convention 2017). Add a hashtag and you have the start of a tweet! #HLAA2017 is the official Convention hashtag on Twitter.

The Creation Museum’s annual Deaf Day began in 2010. This yearly event features ASL interpreters and deaf volunteers. Some of the areas feature ASL interpreters providing live interpretation of presentations such as "The Last Adam." We hope many guests will come and enjoy the Deaf Day each year. Hearing guests are also invited, of course, and we expect you will enjoy watching the expressive communication of American Sign Language during the shows and throughout the museum. It can be a real learning experience to be surrounded by people speaking the beautiful language of ASL!
