Description Of Services: 

A national non-profit consumer organization, established in 1982, whose mission is to promote the leadership development, economic and educational opportunities, social equality, and to safeguard the general health and welfare of Black deaf and hard of hearing people. It is the oldest and largest consumer organization of deaf and hard of hearing black deaf people in the United States. There are 30 local chapters throughout the US. Membership includes African-American adults who are deaf and hard of hearing; parents of African-American children who are deaf or hard of hearing; professionals who work with deaf and hard of hearing children and adults; and other interested individuals. The organization is governed by an Executive Board whose members serve on a voluntary basis and is comprised of a majority of deaf and hard of hearing advocates. The board consists of officers elected during the national conventions and elected representatives from each member chapter.
