Schools
K-12 interpreters (by the 2016 school year must possess):
• The Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a minimum score of 3.5 AND the EIPA written test with a passing score; OR
• National Interpreting Certificate with Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) AND the EIPA written test with a passing score.
Courts
Court Interpreters effective January 14, 2015:
Hearing Interpreters:
• Specialist certificate: Legal (SC: L) from the Registry of interpreters for the deaf; OR
• Registry of interpreters for the deaf (RID) certification and having passed the SC: L written test.
• Must undergo a DSHS criminal background check conducted by DSHS back check central unit using DSHS form 09-653 background authorization. \
• Must complete the Washington courts training provided by the AOC.
Deaf Interpreters:
• Must hold a current certified deaf interpreter (CDI) certification from the registry of interpreters for the deaf;
• Must undergo a DSHS criminal background check conducted by DSHS background check central unit using DSHS form 09-653 background authorization;
• Must complete the Washington courts training provided by the AOC
