Board
MICS- Consists of a total of seven members, five interpreters and two public members. At least one of the public members shall be deaf. BCI- five members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Two members must be deaf, two must be certified interpreters, and one can be either deaf or a certified interpreter.
Qualifications
Earned an associate degree and/or a minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university. Fingerprinting/background check, must be 18, must provide documentation of certification either at national or state level. The types and levels of interpreter certification granted by the MICS are Basic, Advanced, Master, Restricted Certification in Education (K_6), Restricted Certification in Education (7_12), Restricted Certification in Education (General), Provisional Certificate in Education, and the Intern/Practicum Certification. Each has very specific requirements.
