This workshop will break down the interpreting process from start to finish in a medical interpreting assignment. Highlighted topics include: preparation, doctor’s office vs. hospital setting, breaking down medical terminology and medical questions, the art of “handing off” to the next interpreter, HIPAA considerations, Universal Codes, Informed Consent, avoiding infection exposure, interpreting in the OR, sterile field, best practices when medical situations are not what is expected involving legal, mental health, child services, or palliative care.
